Set in Sierra Leones bloody civil war, this is the story of a poor Mende farmer, Soloman Vandy, who gets caught up in a conflict between an American diamond smuggler and the violent syndicate that controls the local diamond mining. Soloman leads the American to a priceless diamond that he hid during his time in the mines in exchange for his help in getting his son back who has been kidnapped by the rebellion army.
