This sweeping epic set in Japan in the 1870’s follows the life path of Captain Nathan Algren (Cruise), an American military officer hired by Japan’s emperor to turn his Samurai warriors into an army of soldiers. When the Samurai capture Algren, he is impressed by the tradition and code of this proud people. He finds himself enmeshed in their culture and is bound by a sense of honor to fight with them instead of against them.
