DIRTY PRETTY THINGS
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Audrey Tautou, Sergi Lopez, Sophie
Okonedo
Miramax Films; Directed by Stephen Frears
Rated R; 107 minutes; 2003
Okwe (Ejiofor) and Senay
(Tautou) are two illegal immigrants living illegally on the seedy side of London. They both work sub-minimum wage jobs in a
hotel and are severely exploited since they are in jeopardy of deportation by
immigration officials at any time. When
Okwe accidentally discovers a secret organ transplant operation going on in the
hotel he and Senay become embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy that involves
Senay offering one of her kidneys in exchange for financing to go to
America. This grisly thriller shows the
extreme means that desperate immigrants will go to to try and make a better life
for themselves.
