| This very personal look at the Cold war is based on Director Eva Gardos' own experiences in escaping Communist Hungary. During the harsh conditions of Communist repression, a family sacrifices their wealth and privilege to escape to the West. A chaotic late-night crossing causes them to leave their youngest child Suzanne behind. They must go on and build a life in America while Suzanne is raised by a peasant family in Hungary as if she were their own. Suzanne's mother continues to fight to bring her home and when she finally succeeds, Suzanne arrives to an unknown world with people whom she does not know but must accept as her parents. Suzanne grows into a rebellious teenager and only by going back to Hungary on her own terms, is she able to find herself and to find her true home. | |||||
