The story about going to extremes to fulfill a dream centers on Marva, a seventeen-year-old regular at singing contests, which she always loses. Her father is an average hard-working factory man who, upon losing his job, decides to kidnap the number one singer in the country, Debbie to get the attention of her manager. Although Marva wants a successful career she is not sure she is ready to get it in this way. The attention given to the kidnapping helps Debbie's record sales skyrocket, and her manager strikes an odd deal with the kidnapper: He'll make Marva a star if he keeps Debbie as long as possible. This sincere film about people trying to take advantage of the small opportunities afforded them was nominated for an Academy Award © for Best Foreign Film.

In Dutch with English subtitles.
