William Miller (Patrick Fugit), an aspiring fifteen-year-old journalist, hits the road with the Stillwater band to document the band's rise in popularity in an article for Rolling Stone magazine. Billy falls in love with the music and the lifestyle, is taken by the free-spirited beauty Penny Lane (Kate Hudson), and learns a few things about himself along the way in this fictional rendition of director Cameron Crowe's experience as a teen journalist in the '70s.
