Based on Carl Sagan’s 1985 novel about mankind’s first communication with extra-terrestrial life, this sci-fi thriller features Jodie Foster as Ellie Arroway, a free thinking astronomer who realizes her lifelong dream when she detects an intelligent radio message from outer space. The action turns on the global consequences of the decryption of the message that includes detailed instructions for building a large, mysterious machine.
