When the most dangerous prisoners in the U.S. penal system are transferred to a new super-maximum security facility, parolee Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) hitches a ride on the transport flight only to find himself embroiled in a meticulously planned mid-air hijacking masterminded by Cyrus Grissom (John Malkovich). On the ground, U.S. Marshal Vince Larkin (John Cusack) faces impossible odds as he tries to avert the takeover and keep his overzealous superiors from blowing the aircraft into oblivion.
