TIN CUP

Kevin Costner, Rene Russo, Don Johnson, Cheech Marin

Warner Bros.; Directed by Ron Shelton

Rated R; 113 minutes; 1996

Ron Shelton, Kevin Costner, and Rene Russo team up in this comedy-drama about love, risk, and golf. Costner plays a driving range pro and golf hustler from West Texas whose legendary ball-striking skills are matched only by his self-destructive nature and low life charm. This comfortable life of failure is turned upside down when he is smitten by a woman who comes in for golf lessons; he then sets out to quality for the U.S. Open to prove to himself (and to her) that he’s capable of heroic achievements.
