The pulsating period before, during and after the Civil War, is the underlying theme of this epic story of Johnny Shawnessy (Clift) and the two women in his life--Nell Garther (Saint) and a beautiful New Orleans belle (Taylor). The movie follows Johnny's search for the legendary Golden Raintree, which when found is supposed to be bring love, happiness and the secret of life itself.
