GODSPELL

Victor Garber, Katie Hanley, David Haskell

Columbia Pictures; Directed by David Greene

Rated G; 103 minutes; 1973

This is a passion play of the Gospel according to St. Matthew, updated to modern New York with very inventive results. The disciples and their clown-like leader wander all over New York, more or less unfolding the parables and the proverbs of the New Testament, everywhere from the electronic Accutron sign in Times Square to the top of the new World Trade Center. Stephen Schwart composes the score for this jubilant film version of the successful stage musical.

REVIEWS

"The material is larger than life; so is the visual approach. The score is tremendous."
