Ryan O'Neal is Lyndon, a role derived from William Makepeace Thackeray's novel about a rags-to-riches Irish rogue who gallivants through Europe from casinos to castles as a spy, a soldier, a wife-beater, and a gambler. As writer, producer, and director, Stanley Kubrick spent 3 years in meticulous concentration to reproduce an authentic vision of the 18th century.

- Rex Reed, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST
