Rock star John Norman (Kris Kristofferson) has seen his popularity dwindle and he has difficulties keeping promises to his agent or journalist. He meets the young singer Esther (Barbra Streisand) and helps her to get a contract with a record company. While she has a breakthrough, Norman becomes more and more depressed. Barbara Streisand won Academy Award for Best Song "Evergreen."
