This epic struggle of the Civil War is
portrayed on the screen with a faith and fury seldom accomplished. In what many
consider his greatest role, James Stewart plays a widowed Virginian who
attempts to make his land an island, sheltered from the horrors of war. He
successfully pits his bull-headed and almost arrogant belief in peace against
all the forces attempting to draw him into the war, until it involves his own
family.
