KRAMER VS. KRAMER

Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Jane Alexander

Columbia Pictures; Directed by Robert Benton

Rated PG; 105 minutes; 1979

Dustin Hoffman shines in this superbly crafted Robert Benton film about parents entangled in a legal and emotional tug-of-war for their child. As Ted Kramer, Hoffman is a red-hot Madison Avenue account executive who lacks sensitivity to his wife’s needs for self-fulfillment. Joanna Kramer abandons her role as wife-mother, leaving husband and son to their own charming devices. Eventually she returns to lay claim to her adorable seven-year-old son.
