Theme: Seek the Unknown

Teen Read Week 2012

Why celebrate?
Teens have so many choices when it comes to entertainment that they can sometimes forget the benefits of readings: It's free, it's fun and it can be done anywhere! To learn more about Teen Read Week and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the organization that supports this event, visit www.ala.org/yalsa.

Since its creation in 1998, thousands of libraries around the world have celebrated Teen Read Week with a variety of special events and programs aimed at reminding teens the benefits of reading and showing them the resources the library provides.

Celebrate this year's theme, "Seek The Unknown" with programming ideas that focus on exploring and adventure, whether on this planet or the next.

"Out of this World" programming ideas

Invite your teens to explore the many different areas of your library with a scavenger hunt. Hide clues in books, on the library's webpages and social media accounts, in your meeting rooms and other places to help them learn something new about your library as they try to solve the clues. Offer a prize for the team who solves the mystery first, then top off the event with a movie showing of a space related movie.
