Teen Read Week
Picture It @ Your Library

Celebrate Teen Read Week with special book-themed programming! This year’s theme, Picture This, can be interpreted a number of different ways. You could choose to focus on comics, graphic novels, photo essays, books to movies and much more.

Why celebrate?
Teens have so many choices when it comes to entertainment that they can sometimes forget the benefits of readings: It’s free, it’s fun and it can be done anywhere! Programming Ideas

Mystery Science Theatre
You may remember this popular show on Comedy Central. The hit show involved a man and his robots providing a running commentary on each film, making fun of its flaws and wisecracking or "riffing" their way through each reel in the style of a movie-theater peanut gallery. Movie Licensing USA customers are having their version of this called Monday Movie Madness. They allow teens to watch a movie and make silly comments throughout. They ask that the audience has a good time but keep it clean. Our Annual Public Performance Site License covers showings of Mystery Science Theatre 3000, a great kick-off to your new program!

Themed nights
Example: "Cheese" as the theme…teens vote on the cheesiest movie and watch it while eating cheese! Other options: Favorite Anti-Valentine, Worst Graphics/Special Effects or Craziest Pets in Film.

Teen Book Boot Camp
Choose a day when teens in your area have time off school (holiday break or weekend), and hold a four hour Book Boot Camp for teens! Start with trivia about the book, follow up with a physical game or activity and end with pizza and a movie!

Have a comic book swap
Invite your teens to bring comics to swap after a showing of a comic book-themed movie like The Dark Knight, The Green Hornet or Iron Man 2.

Display books to sink your teeth into
Embrace the vampire trend and have a special showing of the Twilight series. Pair your movie event with a special book discussion and vampire-themed book display.

See what the author says
Host a Skype Q&A session with an author after reading his or her latest work in your teen book club. Ask about inspiration, the writing process and what’s next on his or her agenda.
